What we do

Services include:

  • Therapeutic Youth Counselling

  • Group work
  • Mentoring

For more information regarding services see our services page. If you believe you or anyone you know needs our assistance please call 9361 4222 between 9am and 12pm, Monday to Friday.

VISION

To prevent youth suicide, depression and self-harm.

Purpose

Youth Focus values young lives by ensuring the emotional well-being of young people, developing their self worth and offering them the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Objectives

  • To prevent suicide and self-harming behaviours in young people.
  • To provide a youth friendly community based support service.
  • To offer early support and assistance to young people and their families.
  • To promote the development of coping, interpersonal and psychosocial competencies in young people.
  • To promote strong and caring relationships between young people, their families, peers and communities.
  • To work in a coordinated and collaborative manner with other agencies/organisations which may also be providing services to the young person and/or his/her family.

Who's eligible?

Any young person aged 12 to 18 years and their families who are showing early signs associated with suicide, depression and self-harm.

Issues dealt with include suicide and self harming behaviours, bullying, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, family difficulties, symptoms of depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, grief and loss, self esteem and social isolation.

Youth Focus aims to understand young people and their difficulties within the broader context of their lives which includes family, friends, school and their local community. This understanding acknowledges the effect of past experiences, the significance of current issues and circumstances, and the nature of adolescence as a life stage.

We aim to provide services in a way that are "youth friendly", flexible, needs driven and personalised.

How much does it cost?

Counselling support is not time limited and is free of charge. In addition, an outreach service is available. Small charges do apply to our Peer Support Programs.

Youth Focus is dependent on corporate sponsorship, fund raising events and grants.

What Youth Focus is not?

  • Youth Focus is not a crisis response service.
  • Youth Focus does not duplicate existing service provision. This means that if we believe there is a more appropriate service provider we will advise and offer assistance to contact.
  • Service provision is needs driven and must be purposeful. At Youth Focus we work to agreed service plans which are aimed at achieving meaningful change.

Volunteers

Without the assistance of Youth Focus volunteers we would be unable to deliver our Peer Support Programs. Each volunteer is Police cleared, assessed, trained and offered ongoing support. We also use volunteers to assist with our fundraising and to help out at Events. For more information about volunteering please go to our volunteers  page or call Youth Focus on 9361 4222 or email Youth Focus.
